Caerphilly showed skill in their running and ability to pass the ball well with Sam Sweetingham taking the Caerphilly man of the match for his own well grounded try and skilful rugby on the day.
Caerphilly's 2 other try scorers were Joseph Bray and Jack Phillips.

Risca were the bigger side physically but Caerphilly were the more skilful side on the day.
A special mention goes to Bradley Hill, Ben Crook and Thomas Gane who worked hard in attack and defence.
Caerphilly's try scorers were Bradley Hill (4), Ben Crook (2), Thomas Gane (2), Jamie Sollis and a try for Caerphilly man of the match Alex Spargo.
Caerphilly played some excellent rugby in what were very heavy conditions and credit must go to the whole team for an outstanding performance.

Caerphilly laid their stall out in the first half with 3 unanswered converted tries.
An evenly matched second half saw Caerphilly score 2 hard fought tries with try being converted.
Exceptional performances from Caerphilly outside-half, Mathew Hurley who scored a hat-trick, prop, Joss Evans (1), and centre Rees Sparey (1).
Credit also to second row, Jonathon Rees, and the Caerphilly man of the match went to David Mathews for his overall hard working performance.

Caerphilly edged the first half with Risca coming back in the second period to score a last grasp try to take the honours.

Caerphilly kept the strong Pontypridd side away from the Caerphilly try line for long periods.
Caerphilly's Thomas and James Moody ran well throughout the game and Shaun Dale worked hard in a great show of strength.
Pontypridd never gave up the battle to score against the home side, and eventually 2 tries were run in for their efforts.
Caerphilly Man of the Match was awarded to Rhys Jenkins for showing superb spirit in adverse conditions.

An outstanding performance against a strong Pontypridd side.
The Caerphilly forwards driving through, setting up and recycling the ball time and time again.
The ball was spread wide after drawing in the Pontypridd defence.
Caerphilly again showing that defence is a vital part of modern rugby, and the final score reflects this well.
Try scorers were Liam Steele, Phillip Davies, Nathan Horner and David Evans.
Aaron Evans kicked 2 conversions on the day.

Caerphilly got the first points on the board through an intercepted pass by centre, Rees Sparey which was duly converted by Mathew Hurley.
Pontypridd fought back with 2 tries due to poor tackling by the home side and both tries were converted.
Caerphilly never gave up and fought to the bitter end and pressurised the Pontypridd try-line which saw the Caerphilly Man of the Match, Joss Evans crash over for a superb try.
The game was marred in the dying minutes by the visiting players with abusive language and obscene gestures. An unsavoury ending to a great game.

Caerphilly worked hard to come back from a deficit in the first half and never conceded the lead there after.
Caerphilly try scorers were David Sparey, Adam Minty, Dewi Smith, Ryan Hopkins and Rob Carter.

The Caerphilly Man of the Match was awarded to Dewi Smith for a great performance and his all-round commitment.

Trinant got off to a bad start before the game began, being one man down. Caerphilly loaned one of their forwards, Jonny Leak to boost the Trinant numbers for the duration of the game.
The game developed well for Caerphilly through some good teamwork and clinical finishing of second and third phase ball.
Although Trinant fought hard throughout the game, they never quite managed to squeeze a try through the wall of Caerphilly defence.
Tries for Caerphilly scored by Jonathon Hughes (2), Mike Marsden (2), Daniel Marsden, Gavin Howells, Gareth Billinghurst and Gareth Key.
Conversions kicked by Lloyd Davies (2).
The Caerphilly Man of The Match was awarded to Daniel Marsden for his all-round play and excellent tackling.

Cefn Fforest were up against a strong Caerphilly side on the day but still squeezed through to score 2 tries of their own.

Caerphilly worked the ball well and played good rugby to seal a well earned victory.

Caerphilly made their mark on the game with an early bullocking try when second row, Jonathon Rees charged over the Deri try-line taking 3 Deri defence with him.
Before the interval, Caerphilly's Jonathon Rees grounded his second try of the day, a photocopy of the first.
Deri put pressure on Caerphilly during the game, but the visitors defended well and improved tackling ensured the home-side did not score.
A break-away try by outside-half Mathew Hurley from deep inside his own half during the second period gave Caerphilly their 3rd try of the day.
Hurley side-stepped his way through the Deri defence with a superbly angled run.
Conversions kicked by Oliver Hudd (2) and Mathew Hurley.
Man of the Match was awarded to Mathew Hurley for his all-round performance on the day.

Both sets of forwards fought hard, but Caerphilly were the stronger on the day not letting Newbridge cross for a single try.
Excellent play by Sam McCoombe crossing for a hat trick of tries and some solid tackling coming from Stephen Griffiths.
Jamie Sollis was chosen as Caerphilly Man of the Match for his strong physical running and outstanding commitment who also scored a try on the day.

Caerphilly crossed for 2 first half tries which gave them the confidence to go into the second half and ground 3 more, with all tries being successfully converted.
Ebbw Vale did threaten the Caerphilly try line on occasions but found themselves battling against a brick wall of defence.
There wasn't a nominated Caerphilly Man of the Match as the whole team put in a tremendous effort to seal such a good result.

Caerphilly lost their shape in the second half after making a number of half-time changes.
The tackling became poor and the back line disorganised letting Newbridge back into the game.
A try saving tackle by Caerphilly Man of the Match, Lloyd Vaughan who chased the Newbridge sprinter 30 metres who fell short of scoring a try by only 3 metres of the Caerphilly try line restricting Newbridge to 17 points.

Caerphilly scored their first try through Dean Watkins and a typical sniping try was to follow by Caerphilly scrum half, Jacob Sweetingham, converted by Gareth Thomas.
The second half developed into a battle of the forwards with Caerphilly holding on for a deserved victory.

But on the day it was the Cardiff team who got the better of the home side beating Caerphilly by a clear 10 points.
An excellent game of rugby fought bravely by two strong sides with all Caerphilly's points coming from Daniel Hodge, 2 tries and a conversion to his credit.
Caerphilly Man of the Match, Ryan Hopkins showed great commitment in his new position at Number 8 from second row.
Caerphilly Under 15's are now training on Tuesday evenings from 6.00pm - 7.00pm at Bedwas School red gear.

On the day it was the well honed visitors who outpaced the home side by 2 tries to 1.
Alex Knott scored Caerphilly's only try of the game and a special mention to Man of the Match, William Oliver, who put in some superb tackles throughout the game.

Caerphilly came away victorious beating Blackwood by 2 tries to nil.
Both Caerphilly tries came from Bradley Hill, one of which was from a clearance kick from Blackwood and was run in from 50 metres.
Geraint Clarke and Sam McCoombe played some brilliant rugby for Caerphilly and Man of the Match for Caerphilly was awarded to Stephen Griffiths for an outstanding performance.

The only try of the game came from a set move from the scrum on the half-way line.
The ball passed through several pairs of hands before second row, Adam Davies off-loaded to prop, Joss Evans to ground the ball.
Credit to outside-half, Mathew Hurley played well and was put under pressure to clear his line on a few occasions.
The high work rate from try scorer, Joss Evans who also made a try saving tackle was awarded Man of the Match.

The electric first half was reduced to half power in the second and did not live up to the expectations and highs of the first period with only one Caerphilly second half try being scored.

Treharris made a brave effort to break the Caerphilly line in the first half but this task proved unsuccessful.
Caerphilly held their line well, and with excellent teamwork restricted the Treharris flow.
Caerphilly continued their domination of the game in the second half and were the stronger of the two teams on the day.
Jack Philips was awarded the Man of the Match for Caerphilly and also scored 4 of Caerphilly's 8 tries on the day.
Alex Knott scored a hat-trick of tries and a single try scored by Jack Bevan.

Caerphilly controlled the game in the first half, leading at the interval by 3 tries to 1, with some good rugby played by Alex Spargo and Jamie Sollis and two first half tries grounded by Bradley Hill.
Caerphilly made 8 changes to their side in the second half ensuring every player had a game on the day, but this let Treharris back in the game resulting in the home side scoring two more tries and levelling the scores.
Caerphilly's other try scorer was Jake Elliott and the Man of the Match was awarded to Geraint Clarke.

Treharris were grateful to Caerphilly's Joel Knott who made up the home-side numbers.
The game played on a very narrow pitch reduced both sides possible chances of using the ball out wide.
Treharris did try breaking the Caerphilly defence on occasions, but found themselves trying to break through a brick wall, only managing the one try on the day.
Philip Davies was awarded Man of the Match for Caerphilly scoring 2 tries.
Other try scorers were Aaron Evans, David Evans, Owain Tarr and Christopher Wilson.

Caerphilly fought hard for periods against Treharris who ran in 2 early tries.
Caerphilly's biggest problem of the day was with the Treharris whistle blower who struggled with the most basic of rugby rules and penalising Caerphilly with 14 penalties to Treharris's 1 penalty on the day.
Caerphilly kept plugging away but eventually ran out of time and finished 9 points adrift.
Caerphilly's tries scored by Rees Sparey (2), Adam Davies and Joss Evans.
Conversions kicked by Mathew Hurley (2) and Oliver Hudd.
Man of the Match was given to Rees Sparey for his all-round performance throughout the game.

Caerphilly made their mark on the game with a try coming from some early pressure showing N.H.O.B. just what the Caerphilly outfit were capable of. Newport tried hard to come back at Caerphilly and looked threatening at times.
Caerphilly took every opportunity to make ground and put pressure on Newport.
The communication between Caerphilly forwards and backs worked well in the set-move department with Caerphilly scoring some superb tries.
Newport came back at Caerphilly in the last 10 minutes, but until then really struggled to get over the gain line with ball in hand.
Caerphilly try scorers were G. Key (2), D. Berrow (2), J. Stocking and D. Masters. Conversions M. Berry and D. Berrow.

Caerphilly forwards dominated the game up front and laid a platform to provide possession and good ball to a strong Caerphilly back line.
Several excellent moves were constructed by Caerphilly which in turn saw some first class tries being scored.
Caerphilly Man of the Match was awarded to Nigel Jones who ran in 5 spectacular tries.
Other try scorers for Caerphilly were Daniel Barge (2) and Kevin McCall (1). Conversions kicked by Kevin McCall (4).

The try created by some excellent set moves which saw Key ground the ball over the Cross Keys try line.
Cross Keys tried valiantly to come back at Caerphilly, but the Castletown Under 14's proved too strong and soon put in their second try of the day coming from Wayne Tuckwell.
Caerphilly put in another strong offence before the interval which Cross Keys found difficult to hold back. This pressure was turned into points when Caerphilly prop, Jonny Leek crashed through to score under the posts.
The second half opened with an early, well deserved try coming from Cross Keys, touch down in the corner.
Caerphilly fought back well and replied with 2 more tries.
The first coming from C.Thomas and a try from J.Edwards.
The Caerphilly Man of the Match was awarded to try scorer and the kicker of 4 conversions, Craig Thomas. M.Bilton was responsible for the other Caerphilly conversion.

Caerphilly under 8's proved the stronger side in their game last Sunday against Dowlais, beating them by 5 tries to 0 in windy conditions. Jack Phillips scored a hat-trick of tries and 2 tries for Alex Knott. A closer game against a much improved Senghenydd side for the Under 8's with the final score of Caerphilly 3-1 Senghenydd. Tries for Caerphilly scored by Joseph Bray, Gethin Birch and Alex Knott.
Caerphilly Under 12's 26-7 Abertysswg. A great performance of rugby shown by Caerphilly in their deserved win over Abertysswg on the weekend. Tries for Caerphilly scored by Lloyd Meredith(2), Gareth Dickinson and Daryl Mota. Conversions by Gareth Thomas (2) and William Worthington. A special mention to Jonathan Bloor, Alex Field and Jacob Sweetingham.
Caerphilly Under 13's lost to a strong Beddau side. The game was more tightly contested than the final score suggests with Beddau beating Caerphilly by 27 points to 7. Scott Emmanuel scoring Caerphilly's only try on the day.
Markham 26-10 Caerphilly. An Under par performance was shown by Caerphilly Under 15's who went down against a much improved Markham side. Tries by Gareth Owens and Gareth Phillips. Caerphilly Man of the Man was full back Gareth Davies.
Caerphilly Youth 51-19 Dowlais. Dowlais scored an excellent opening try which was duly converted. This was to be followed by a powerful pack of Caerphilly forwards who took over the game and put a total of 9 tries against the Dowlais opposition. Dowlais came back with 2 late tries but not enough to cause concern for Caerphilly. A special mention to props, Johnny Leek and Gavin Howells. Tries for Caerphilly scored by J. Leek (3), D Berrow (2), D Masters (2), D Marsden and J Hughes. Conversions kicked by M Berry(3).

With a depleted squad due to injuries
the Youth travelled to Nelson for a friendly fixture. In the first half the
contest was hard and fair with both sides having opportunities. Nelson managed
to score first through their all action hooker Ross Coombes for a 5-0 lead.
Then occurred one of those moments in rugby, which defies belief. Caerphilly
Winger Craig Huish hacked the ball through, chased and fell on the ball for
what seemed a legitimate try. The referee who someone in the crowd pointed
out,' would have been better off taking his wife shopping rather than referring
this fixture' gave a five-metre scrum to the home side. Caerphilly went close
to scoring on a number of occasions with the forwards driving relentlessly at
the Nelson line, Nathan Dinz and Adam Kidley involved heavily. Outside half
Marty Pearce just failing to throw himself over the line before Nelson
responded through their hooker Ross Coombes. Nelson took a 10-0 half time
lead.
The second half saw Caerphilly earn a penalty, which Marty Pearce
converted. Yet it was the home side who proved far more formidable in the
second half with some well worked tries from Geraint Williams, Matthew Duggan
and Geraint Yeo. Caerphilly, to their credit never gave up and their spirit was
personified by Second Row Adam Kidley and Captain Lee Howells, whose charging
runs threatened to break the Nelson line on several occasions.

The visitors extended their lead further with another try in the right hand corner of the pitch, which went unconverted. A comeback seemed on the cards before the referee put an end to the evenings entertainment by blowing his whistle early after some sustained pressure by the Caerphilly eight.

Saturday 8th September
saw neighbours and rivals Bedwas Youth playing at Virginia Park. With a good
sized crowd the game was fiercely contested with both teams eager to do well.
It was Bedwas who struck first, a series of well worked passes in their back
line paid dividends and with the conversion they raced away to an early lead.
Indeed with a strong wind behind them and their backs full of running Bedwas
extended their advantage with a further two tries before Caerphilly were able
to respond. A penalty saw Caerphilly kick for touch and from the resulting
lineout the pack were able to force their way over. Claiming the score. Marty
Pearce converted.
Half Time: CAERPHILLY YOUTH
7 - BEDWAS 19
The second half saw Caerphilly using the
wind but failing to convert pressure into points on a number of occasions.
Bedwas again throwing the ball out wide crossed to extend their lead. However
Caerphilly showed some fine spirit and for the best part of twenty minutes were
camped on the Bedwas line. Caerphilly Captain Lee Howells was able to break the
deadlock with a powerful charge from close range, which resulted in a try. The
second half saw frustration and ill discipline creep into the Bedwas side and
on two occasions the referee had to show the yellow card to Bedwas players.
Nevertheless the Bedwas Backs showed what a class act they are and were able to
finish the game on a high with another well worked try right at the death.
Coach Matthew Ferris was upbeat saying, 'less than two weeks ago with only four
players in training I wasn't sure the game would be played. Bedwas have had
over 25 players training throughout the summer, so the fact there was a good
crowd and 15 Caerphilly players giving their all is a positive thing. I'm proud
of the boys and with a few more in training I'm sure we will improve.'

Caerphilly Youth started the new season under new coach Matthew Ferris with a fine win over a spirited Cefn Fforest side.
On a glorious day it was Cefn Fforest who started spritely. Early pressure resulted in a penalty which the Fforest outside half slotted cleanly (0-3 Cefn Fforest).
Caerphilly soon regained composure and two tries in succession by Captain and Number 8, Lee Howells saw the home side take a deserved lead. Caerphilly's outside half Marty Pearce added the conversions to take the half time score to 14-3 in Caerphilly's favour.
Caerphilyl started the second half with a spring in their step and a good phase of play was rewarded with a Dewi Roberts try.
With Cefn now losing confidence, Caerphilly rammed home the advantage with their pack putting together a series of fine rucks. Debutant Flankers Jamie Thomas and Richard Hynam to the fore, however it was the introduction of Robert Howard that Caerphilly began to dominate. His charging runs backed up by prop Aaron Dawes saw Lee Howells cross for a further four tries.
It was Richard Prail who finished the try scoring with a well worked move up the left of the field. Marty Pearce added the conversion to take his tally to ten points and the side to fifty.
