It is with great pleasure Caerphilly RFC announce that their main sponsor for the forthcoming season will be Valley Lines. Our local railway company have allied their support to the "Castletown" club for what promises to be a very exciting season when Caerphilly will be flying its colours all around Europe playing at venues in Italy, France, Ireland and Scotland. Of historical interest to younger members and those who have recently moved into the area, Caerphilly's largest employer for decades was Rhymney Railways who moved to Caerphilly in 1901 opening "The Railway Locomotive and Carriage Works". The works expanded and in 1926 were taken over by Great Western Railways and at one time over 2000 were employed at the works which became the second largest of its kind in Britain and in the twenties they named the famous locomotive 'Caerphilly Castle' to celebrate the connection with the town. Great Western Railways were in control until 1947 when British Rail took over. In this era many of our older members worked and served their time as apprentices at the 'sheds' as the engine works were known locally. In 1963 diesel engines were introduced on British railways and as the sheds were mainly for the repairs of steam locomotives it brought about its demise, closing in 1964. A sad day, as it seemed that the railway had been forever a part of Caerphilly and the town.

May we hope that the Caerphilly club's relationship with Valley Lines be equally as long and successful.

Following an exciting season in which Caerphilly RFC finished in 10th place in the Welsh/Scottish Premiership League, the club received extensive media coverage. This included television broadcasts, newspaper coverage (including photographs in all the leading National, Welsh and local press).
As well as excellent rugby, the club also provides an important community facility for the town. It is used throughout the week by mini, junior and youth sides as well as by football clubs and other local organizations. As an example of this the rugby sides alone support over 300 young people.
There are many sponsorship opportunities available which are used to maintain the community facilities and to employ a good squad of senior players.
