Caerphilly travelled to Thomond Park, Limerick to face the provincial giants Munster, who are riding high in the Celtic League Pool A with their star-studded side.
The blustery weather conditions did not help either side, Munster off to a flying start with 3 tries scored within the first quarter of the match. Frank Sheahan scoring on the 5 minute mark, Mike Mullins at 10 minutes then Quinlan again crossing the Caerphilly line with 20 minutes played. Lions and Irish international fly-halfRonan O'Gara converting the latter try. The scoreline remained static for the second quarter bringing the half-time score to Munster 17 - Caerphilly 0.
The second period kicked-off with conditions getting worse, the pitch becoming very slippery, this contributing to Caerphilly making some unforced errors.
A Mick Galwey try and O'Gara conversion increased the home side lead to 24-0. Marcus Horan also adding his name to the scorers list, O'Gara this time unable to add the extras.
With the scoreline at 29-0, Caerphilly were waiting for the final whistle to bring their Celtic challenge to a close. Scottish referee, Mike Hall found some extra time which allowed Mick O'Driscoll to notch up another try, O'Gara again producing the goods. Another unconverted try by Dominic Crotty finalised proceedings at Thomond Park.
Munster easily making it into the Quarter finals of the Celtic League while Caerphilly reflect upon their recent performances and look to take the positives into the Welsh Premiership League.
